Steve Togher, CAIA

Managing Director, Alternative Investments

Steve Togher is the Managing Director of Alternative Investments and a member of the Investment Committee, Product Development Committee, and Investment Quality Assurance Committee. He is responsible for overseeing the use of hedge funds and other “non-traditional” investment solutions in Fortigent portfolios, including appropriate asset allocation, manager search and selection (for both funds of funds and single strategy managers), and ongoing due diligence and risk management. He is the Chair of the Portfolio Management Oversight Committee, and is involved in the creation and application of Fortigent’s quantitative analytical models and programs.

Prior to joining Fortigent, Steve was a Senior Vice President in the Alternative Investment Group at Oppenheimer & Company, where he was Portfolio Manager for The Whistler Fund, Oppenheimer’s proprietary hedge fund of funds. His responsibilities there were to oversee all aspects of the firm’s alternative investments, including research and analysis, ongoing due diligence and risk management, portfolio construction, and asset allocation. Prior to Oppenheimer, Mr. Togher was a Vice President in the Private Wealth Management Group at Morgan Stanley, where he focused primarily on alternative investments. He also held positions at ING Barings and at Sandler O’Neill & Partners, focusing on alternative investments and quantitative analysis.

Steve earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Information Systems and a MBA (Finance) from Bernard Baruch College, where he also served as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics. He holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation, as well as the NASD Series 7, 63 and 65 licenses.
